What are MiSight® Soft Contact Lenses?
MiSight® soft contact lenses are designed to slow the progression of myopia in children aged 8 to 12.
These FDA-approved lenses feature a patented technology called ActivControl, which changes the way light focuses on the retina, and thus decreases eye strain that contributes to myopia progression.
MiSight lenses are soft, comfortable, and easy to wear, which is what makes them an ideal vision correction option for children with myopia who don’t enjoy wearing glasses, are active, and are too young for laser surgery or other invasive optical treatments.
The Benefits of MiSight® Soft Contact Lenses
They Can Slow or Halt Myopia Progression
Research shows that MiSight® lenses can significantly slow the progression of myopia in children. This helps to reduce the risk of complications associated with high levels of myopia, such as retinal detachment, glaucoma, macular degeneration, and cataracts.
They Improve Vision
In addition to slowing myopia, MiSight® soft contact lenses are also designed to provide clear every-day vision. This makes them suitable for children who need clear vision to keep up with the demands of school and extracurricular activities like sports.
They’re Comfortable and Convenient
They’re soft and comfortable to wear, which means your little one won’t struggle with keeping them in the whole day. This also makes them ideal for children who are too young for other myopia control treatments.
They’re Easy to Maintain
MiSight® soft contact lenses are easy to care for and require no special solutions or cleaning methods. They’re worn once and thrown away at the end of the day. This is useful for children who are often forgetful and may not be able to clean contact lenses thoroughly.
And a Great Option for Children Who Dislike Glasses
If your child finds glasses ‘uncool’ or has a hard time keeping them on, they’ll enjoy the freedom that MiSight® soft contact lenses offer them. They’ll no longer have to worry about keeping their glasses safe and struggling with seeing clearly during play or sports.
What to Expect During MiSight® Contact Lens Fittings
The contact lens fitting process is quite straightforward and pain-free. Our optometrists will start by conducting a comprehensive eye exam for your child to see if they’re an ideal candidate for MiSight®. If they are, measurements of their eyes will be taken to ensure the perfect fit. Their visual acuity will also be measured before they’re fitted with a trial pair of lenses. Your child will also be taught how to insert and remove these lenses.
Follow up fittings allow us to monitor their progress over time so that we can adjust the prescription as necessary.
